How To Wear Novelty T-Shirts

Believe it or not, having a novelty T-shirt or two in your clothing lineup can be fashionable and fun. But while most "mature" dressers see these quirky shirts as more suited for college-aged guys and slovenly couch potatoes, don't write them off just yet. Though T-shirts displaying ambiguous sayings and witty puns should be avoided in general -- as you'll surely recall from reading the AskMen.com Style Bible -- those novelty T-shirts owning a vintage, retro appeal can bring a stylishly entertaining aspect to any man's weekend wardrobe. That is, of course, if the guy wearing them has the distinctive sense of style needed to pull the look off. And that's why, as purveyors of fashion and fun, we offer you this tutorial on how to wear novelty T-shirts.

A novelty T-shirt that invokes a nostalgic, iconic brand adds an interesting depth to your wardrobe. So opt for something like this "A Diamond is Forever" T-shirt and get the best of both worlds. Guys see one thing, and women hear another. And therein lies the beauty (and enjoyment) of this novelty T-shirt. With a nod to a legendary saying and the legend himself, this retro-looking T is zippy and ironic; but that also means it requires a modern touch to achieve an age-appropriate outfit. Thus, add a sharp track jacket, like this one from Armani Jeans, to balance its overall look. Together, the shirt and jacket allude to a suave, hip sense of humor the ladies will love and the guys can appreciate.

Legendary status has been assigned to Star Wars on many levels; its contributions to filmmaking are unequivocal and, oddly enough, it can have much of the same impact on your weekend wardrobe. For example, should you wear a vintage Storm Troopers T with a modern cardigan, like this one from Banana Republic, you'll have a sophisticatedly hip outfit that's one part geek and one part chic. It's a look that's perfect for a lunch date or an afternoon of running about. Thanks to the distressed look of the shirt and the preppy appearance of the cardigan, these two items come together in an up-to-the-minute outfit that will have fanboys everywhere noting your unique, fashionable approach to style.

Shirts that allude to our athletic prowess in old-school recreations, such as kickball, are always a suitable option for weekend wear. Paying homage to a recess classic, the Kickball Championship shirt makes a smooth, unexpected option for hanging out with the guys. It provides a casually hip T for the sports-minded Joe. And really all it needs to round out its laid-back appeal is a sharp pair of jeans.Take this shirt and couple it with a pair of 7 for All Mankind jeans, for instance, to burnish the streetwise charm of the shirt and the jeans. Wearing these two items together, any guy can easily hasten back to his glory days when he was something of a playground legend.

If you want to create a rock-star image one Saturday night, then pull out all the stops by wearing a classic rock T-shirt with a modishly contemporary blazer. The juxtaposition of the old-school music and the new-school design will establish an urban, sophisticated symmetry. Consider, let's say, wearing a Kiss concert T with the Ben Sherman "Artist" Two-Button Blazer: While individually the two pieces already own a sophisticated, edgy appeal, collectively they fashion a chic outfit custom-made for a night on the town. If you put the two together, you'll exude a fashion-forward, bad-boy image that riffs off an overly confident sense of style.

PalmerCash Hamm's Beer Vintage T-shirt

When we think of beer, we think of good times and good brews. Especially those brands like Hamm's that got us through college and our early 20s. So, give props to this all-important brew and your ever-improving casual style by donning a shirt that advertises your affinity for great beer and cool fashion; and you can definitely up the shirt's impact by adding another classically modish piece: a leather motorcycle jacket. Armani Jeans offers an urbanely chic model to complement the retro appeal of the Hamm's T. The two pieces are a tough combination that is street-smart, handsome and a stylish throwback to two things men truly love.

Spa: Of Pizza and beauty therapy

You can call it the ultimate in luxury living: Spa where you are offered the best beauty treatment along with the best of gourmet food.  India now boasts of quite a few such spas
Spa: Of Pizza and beauty therapy
New Delhi: Ever heard of spas that also provide grourmet food? If not, then next time you are in Delhi, try talking about it. Because the capital is Can you imagine a place where you get special beauty treatment combined with a veritable gourmet feast? Well, difficult to believe but spa restaurants are now getting popular in Delhi.

Can you imagine a place where you get special beauty treatment combined with a veritable gourmet feast? Well, difficult to believe but spa restaurants are now getting popular in Delhi

Start with Hotel Ashok which has Amattra, the spa, done by the Capital's best-known chef-restaurateurs Diva's Ritu Dalmia.

Here the menu confirms the fact that the health factor at this restaurant doesn't override the basic premise of good food— taste!

Apart from the many salads and small bites (eggplant caviar served with flat bread et al), a complete section on healthy wraps (whole wheat and spinach roomalis) there is also a section, surprising perhaps, on pizzas. In fact, the restaurant, where most of the seating is outdoors, has its piece de resistance in a beautiful wood-fired oven also set out in one corner of the lawn.

You can see, and smell, your pizza arrive from here fresh; an image that could be the very antithesis of conventions associated with "health food". The pizza I sample is the Diva favourite: very thin crust, topped with artichokes, spinach and mozzarella and the tomatoes visible. (But there's one with spicier salamis and jalepenos too — spice and meat are not necessarily evil in this universe.)

This is a product far removed from American-style pizzas that you'd order at home which may have up to 500 g of refined flour dough, as opposed to 80 g for this thin crust, and be smothered in cheese.

In contrast, our offering has less cheese (none processed) and is topped off with a dash of health-affirming olive oil (only extra virgin is used in all Italian dishes; cold-pressed sesame oil used for Indian cooking). It is healthier certainly but would it constitute "spa cuisine"?

Ritu Dalmia, back to her restaurants after undergoing an extensive Ayurvedic treatment in Pune, says the premise is to serve wholesome food (organic and fresh) cooked hygienically and not too heavy on the stomach.

"In any case, according to Ayurveda, people ruled by vatta, pitta and kapha require different foods. A person with more air in his make-up, for instance, needs carbohydrates."

So there's no blanket ban on the common villains of Western diets — carbs and fat.
What she does ensure, on the other hand, is to steer clear of combinations that Ayurveda bans (chicken with honey, seafood with dairy, milk and fruits so there are no smoothies on the menu) and incorporates recommended ones (eggplant with oil or astringency; vegetables with coconut, which is why Goan-style curries are also there on the menu).

You can call it the ultimate in luxury living: Spa where you are offered the best beauty treatment along with the best of gourmet food.  India now boasts of quite a few such spas

Divattra may be unique but the country's best-known spas and even lesser-known day ones all provide users with special menus tailored around principles of Ayurveda or other philosophies.

At some places like Ananda in the Himalayas that employs chefs from five-star hotels there has been even more emphasis than usual in providing interesting menus and healthy substitutes for all our excesses.

Now, Aura, the spa at The Park in Chennai, takes this concept forward. The menu here has the likes of grass-fed tenderloin and organic red rice; not just healthy bites but internationally trendy dining too. But spas apart, some smart standalone restaurants are also serving up similar concepts.

It probably started with Olive (with branches in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore) that used to do "spa lunches" targetted at women and designed to effectively utilise the otherwise non-revenue earning lunch slots. This season, the Smoke House Grill in Delhi, another smart young restaurant concept (its sister restaurant in Mumbai is the Salt Water Grill), is attempting the same.

Smoke Houses' spa lunches include not just a lip-smacking menu by way of the likes of butter milk crepes with port braised vegetables, herb-crusted chicken with salsa, char-grilled snapper with braised pok choy, grilled king fish steak and so forth, there's also organic wine, trendy mocktails and reinvented sugar-free desserts to match.

What's also on the menu are some spa therapies! Available only on Saturday afternoons, a tie-up with Spa Transformations (a mobile company, they can set up a spa experience in your home) means that guests could choose from 20 or 40 minute sessions including hand or foot massages, foot reflexology, neck, back and shoulder dry massages for charges ranging from Rs 500-700 per therapy.

This is done, no, not on the dining table, in a separate section, though you could well carry your glass of wine inside. Relaxed and rejuvenated, the lunch would beckon. Tempted?

Now, designer accessories for men!

Gone are the days when accessories were meant only for women. Now, from rings to ear studs to elaborate neck pieces – there is a whole range of  designer accessories made just for men!
Men accessories
Everyone loves to show-off at some point of time, irrespective of sex. The male peacock is a prime example - it dances with its plume wide open to woo the female. In humans, whilst females have access to a lot of fashion accessories, males aren't so lucky. For them, it's the same old stuff - shirts, trousers, ties, belts, goggles, wallets and shoes; nothing else!

It's not as if fashion jewelry for men does not exist. It does, but you'd have to either settle for the crude, sub-standard stuff available locally, or stick to the conventional "precious" jewelry made of diamond and gold. Indian men now have a choice. They can flaunt their masculinity in ways they never thought possible.

Thia , the brain-child of Ketan Jhaveri, a self-made entrepreneur is India's pioneer in steel jewelry and steel accessories for men has a new range that comprises chunky pendants, rings, bracelets, wrist-cords, keychains, cuff-links and money-clips; all very macho and stylish. With pure stainless steel as the base, they create designs that showcase a theme.
He says men can experiment with different kind of accessories and they have an array of choices…

1. Paua's which are brilliant, multicolored and oh-so-fragile shell, found only in the shallow-waters off the coast of New Zealand. Expertly mounted onto pure stainless-steel, the eye-popping range of pendants, bracelets and key chains.

2. Rings which are simple, chunky, and bereft of any precious stones, thereby enhancing their appeal to even those men who feel effeminate when wearing a ring.

3. Money-clips which is a fashionable accessory for those living the high life.

4. Cuff-links a classic symbol of style, elegance and power.

5. Bracelets. Yes, men can now wear bracelets. No, it won't make them look sissy. Quite, on the contrary.

With the fashion industry and its all time boom male accessories are just getting more and more in vogue internationally. Even men in India have already caught-on to the concept of "fashion accessories". It is no longer the exclusive domain of females and designer jewelry will just add to this craze. So all you metro sexual men who are not afraid of being different and dressing with élan, come out of your closest and flaunt your new look!

India Fashion: Traditional Indian sarees

Kota Doria and lugade saris- exploiting desi grandeur

Kota doria are one of the many types of sari available in Rajasthan. Kota doria saris are made at Kota, Rajasthan city and its nearby areas. These types of Sarees are made of pure cotton fabric. Originally, such sarees were called Masuria because they were woven in Mysore.

The weavers were initially brought to Kota by Rao Kishore Singh who was an influential general in the Moghul army. The weavers were brought to Kota in the late 17th and early 18th century and the saris came to be known as 'Kota-Masuria'.

Kota sarees are also popularly known as 'Masuria' in Kota and Kotadoria outside the state. 'Doria' means thread. These are very light textured sari and are comfortable to wear keeping the hot climate of these states in mind.

Generally these saris are available in earthy subtle colors. Now deep colors are also being used. Not only Rajasthani women but from other states also are fond of these Kota saris.

Lugade Saris

Lugade another variety of sari is available in Maharashtra. It's basically Hindu woman's dress is the full Maharashtrian style of nine yards. It is forty-two to forty-five inches in width, and it has two lengthwise borders kanth or kinar, and also two breadth wise borders padar, at the two ends, of which one is more decorated than the other.

The mode of wearing the Lugade by Maratha Brahmins and other classes is with the hind pleats tucked into the waist at the back-centre and the decorated end (padar) thrown over the left shoulder. Maratha ladies allow it to hang from the waist straight down and around like a skirt, and draw its end which covers the bosom and back over the head.

Saris of five or six yards in length have now become fashionable among young ladies in the urban centres.

Benarasi saris- one of the finest in India

Benarasi saris are considered one of the finest saris in India. These saris are made of finely woven silk and fine tissues (Zari) and are decorated with elaborate engravings. Because of these engravings, these saris are relatively heavy.

Benarasi saris are mostly worn by Indian women on important occasions such as when attending a wedding and are expected to be complemented by the woman's best jewelry preferably golden ones. In fact wedding /engagement and Benarasi saris go hand in hand.

Ranging from two thousand rupees the price of this sari goes up to fifty thousand rupees depending upon the rich Zari work on the sari. Teaming up with modern day's style artisans put some mirror work, zardosi work along with the silk and Zari which enhances the look of the sari and makes it heavy too.

But Benarasi sari never goes out of fashion. It is usually worn in two or three styles. Some ladies prefer it to wear it in the general Indian style whereas the pleats are tucked in front and the border (pallu) is pinned to the blouse on the left shoulder.

During some occasions ladies prefer to drape the border (pallu) from the back on the right shoulder and expose the pallu's design in front. Any woman who wears a Benarasi sari looks gorgeous because of its rich texture.

During earlier days people used to get Benarasi saris embroidered with real gold and silver threads. These saris eventually got handed over to the forthcoming generations. Till date Benarasi saris are considered as an asset in a ladies wardrobe.

Bandhni, shalu and tanchoi saris- never heard of them?

Bandhni is another type of multicolored sari available in Rajasthan and Gujarat. The term "bandhani" derives its name from a Hindi word bandhan which means tying up. Bandhani work involves tying and dyeing of pieces of cotton or silk cloth, the main colors used in Bandhani are yellow, red, green and black.

Bandhani work, after the processing is over, results into a variety of symbols including, dots, squares, waves and strips. The main colors used in Bandhani are natural. In fact all colors in bandhani are dark, no light color is used, and the background is mostly in black / red cloth.

The Bandhani work has been exclusively carried out by Muslim Khatri Community of Kutchh. These Muslim Khatri Women have been the custodians of this art from one generation to another. A meter long of cloth can have millions of tiny knots known as "Bheendi" in local language ("Kutchhi").

These knots form a design once open after dyeing in bright colors. Traditionally, the final products can be classified into "Khombi", "Ghar Chola", "Patori", "Chandrokhani" etc. In modern days Bandhani is very popular not only in ladies wears but in gents dresses too, Jamnagar a city in Gujarat (India) is very famous for bandhani work. In fact today also bandhani is printed using ancient block printing techniques and handmade colors in Jamnagar.
